IN THIS STORY:
Vladislaus; Wilhelmina; Suilen
Earl Thomas - Wilhelmina's father. Visiting Romania to celebrate the wedding and marriage of his friend, Sir Sanford. 28 years old. Outgoing.
Spring was such a wonderful time. It was warmer, and the earth was coming alive after the harsh winter. Vlad slowed to a trot once Suilen and he reached town. There was a lot going on, it seemed. Foreign traders were in the market today.
Some from the Orient, some from around the Mediterranean, others from Italy and France. Vladislaus could smell the aroma of different spices and foods. He'd come back later. For the moment, he came here to visit a friend. He spotted her by a trader selling jewelry, and halted.
"Mina!" Vlad exclaimed. Wilhelmina spun around and smiled. He'd come on horseback. "Vlad," she replied, walking over to him as he dismounted. Suilen grabbed the dangling reins, so Henry wouldn't wander.
It was Vlad who got in the first hug. "My mother said I could play today, but I had to bring Suilen." Mina glanced over his shoulder at the musician, who nodded at her. "That's alright. The queen is just protecting you by sending him along," she said, turning to Vlad. "Do you want a ride to your house?" he asked. "Sure."
Vladislaus mounted Henry again, and offered a hand to Mina so she could get up. Once they were both on, he said, "Tell me where to go. Suilen will follow." Mina nodded. "Go straight through town. A little ways out of town, you'll come across a dirt path. Follow it, and it'll lead you to a cottage. That is where I'm staying." Vlad nodded, and kicked the pony's sides. They trotted through town, and as Henry clip-clopped along, Mina held onto Vlad, so she wouldn't fall. He glanced down at the hands wrapped around his middle, and blushed.
It felt strange, but he took comfort in the fact that Mina had pretty hands. They were smoother than his calloused ones, and thinner and more feminine. Smaller too. Finally, they arrived at the dirt path, and Vlad guided Henry down it, with Suilen on his dark steed following closely behind. He could glimpse a figure of a man by the cottage, and he was waving.
"Father!" Mina called, waving back.
