"Oh." Evan says, sounding a bit disinterested. "I know her." And after a few minutes, "How big is this place?"

"Big." Fivel says, tugging on her bangs. "It's a mirror image of the real world, so it's just as big."

Kao groans, feeling discouraged. "Well, that sounds hopeless. I'm not even sure where he appeared or if he' even here. Oh, wait a second. That might work." He trails off mumbling. Kao walks over to a particularly large tree and puts both hands on the bark, trying to connect with it's consciousness. He'd always been irritated with this part of his gift because it required a lot of effort and he never liked talking to people, much less plants. In this situation it should be easy though, he's only trying to do one thing. The response from the tree is quick, for a tree. Evan is not here, not in the forest, not within at least three miles. The tree also gives Kao the feeling that he's in an enclosed area. Normally a tree this old would be able to connect with trees a large distance away, but the connections for this tree stop abruptly a few miles in each direction. Kao shrugs, standing up. It's probably nothing, maybe there was a fire.
"Evan's not anywhere close, according to the tree." He sighs.

Great, I'm following a guy who talks to trees. "Well that doesn't help, does it?" Fivel says sarcastically.

Kao sighs, resting his head against the oak tree. "I've gotta get outta here." He groans, sounding defeated again. "I'm in some... new world. And Evan isn't here. So I gotta get out." On the bright side, at least Evan is probably safe at Havens. Radu'll take care of him if nothing else... He flinches, imagining Evan waking up and finding a limp and almost dead Kao. And intense feeling of guilt stabs him.

Fivel smiles a bit. "You must really love your brother." she says. "I've never had any siblings, so I have no idea what it's like."

"Of course." He says softly. "For as long as I can remember it's always been me and Evan. It must sound weird to some one who doesn't have a person like that, but he's always been the person I can trust and rely on." He smiles bitterly at how sentimental he's getting. Without Evan he's finding it hard to keep any consistency in the way he's acting. "No siblings, really? Don't you get lonely?"

Fivel laughs. "You probably have a mom too, right?" she replies. "I have neither. I live.. lived with my dad. Just me and him." She shrugs. "I guess it gets lonely, but I've been living with it for so long that I never really notice." Fivel's emerald green eyes smile, even with her less content tone. "I guess its better not to know what you're missing out on."

Kao opens his mouth a tiny bit but then closes it again without saying anything. He touches his on the shoulder, something he would normally do for Evan, but then seems to realize what he's doing and takes his hand back after about a second. "That's..." He mumbles, trying again. "You must be pretty strong... to be able to live like that."
(eh, I'm having a bit of writers block. I have no idea what Hikaru would have said... But I tried.)
